State-of-the-Art Technology Helps You See Better

HRT (Heidelberg Retina Tomograph)

Mason Eye Center is equipped with a Heidelberg Retina Tomograph. This instrument takes a digital image of the optic nerve and surrounding retina. The doctor may recommend this test for a more detailed evaluation of the back of the eye for the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, macular issues, and other conditions. The procedure is quick and completely painless, and the results are available immediately. Some conditions require more frequent monitoring to look for changes, so the doctor may recommend repeating images every 3, 6, or 12 months.

Corneal Topography

The corneal topographer is an instrument which maps the surface curvature of the cornea for diagnosing and managing corneal conditions like Keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, and irregular astigmatism. This instrument is also sometimes used in the fitting of rigid contact lenses. The procedure is touchless and painless.

Corneal Pachymeter

The pachymeter uses ultrasound to measure the thickness of the cornea. This measurement is needed to evaluate candidacy for LASIK and is also useful in the evaluation of glaucoma.

Ophthalmoscopy

Ophthalmoscopy is the evaluation of the inside structures of the eye. Several instruments can be used for this. The procedure can help the doctor diagnose diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment, macular degeneration, and retinitis pigmentosa, as well as systemic conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, sarcoidosis, and high blood pressure.

Threshold Visual Field Exam

A visual field machine is used to evaluate the sensitivity and scope of the peripheral vision. Its operation is similar to playing a video game. The information obtained can be used in diagnosing or managing glaucoma, brain tumors, and other diseases.
